What are YOU saving for?

SmartyPig What Are You Saving For?

Over the past couple of weeks we've told you stories of the unique ways SmartyPig customers are using the site to save money (here and here). And now it's time to turn the tables. We want to hear from YOU! We want to know what you're saving for and you could win a SmartyPig gift card just by leaving a comment!

Here's how it works:

  1. Leave a comment in the space below telling us what you're saving money for.
  2. We'll leave the comments open until Wednesday, May 6th, 12PM CST.
  3. At that time, we'll put all of the entries into a random number generator to select first, second and third place winners. ($100, $50 and $25, respectively)

Good Luck!

I heart SmartyPig! You are helping me save (and making it easy) for:
- My honeymoon!
- To help bring my fiancee along for a business trip to Paris.
- A new TV for when we move to our new apartment (and replace the 20" tube TV we've been using for over 5 years now).

Sal - May 01 2009 @ 1:31 pm

My wife and I are saving for a few different things:
1. Our 3 kids college educations (talk about WOW)
2. G.O.O.D Plan (Get Out Of Debt)
3. A family trip to Disney World for a family reunion (I just found out that I had 3 sisters I didn't even know about - see blog for further detail)

Smarty Pig Rocks!

Ryan Cordell - May 01 2009 @ 1:31 pm

Two things:

1.) Christmas-every year we scramble around in Nov. and Dec. and have even gone into debt. Not this year.

2.) Summer-I'm a teacher who only gets paid in the 9 school months. Every year we save up for the summer drought, but Smarty Pig is making that process so much simpler this time around.

Sara C - May 01 2009 @ 2:51 pm

I'm saving to save (emergency fund?)and also for a down payment.!!

oink, oink! (oinking with smartypig is safer than stocks at small prices.)

50
Jennifer - May 01 2009 @ 3:01 pm

I have three things -
Another Overstock.com gift card - I love using them - not only did they kick in another extra % on top of what I saved, it is easy to use. I don't have to enter in the a gift card number each time, Overstock remembers it and I just order away.

I have an On-hand cash account - if it looks like we will be short during the month or have an unexpected expense, I simply re-load my Smarty Pig debit card with the cash and simply start re-building the account next month.

My son wants new speed skates for next fall - that is savings item #3.

I love Smarty Pig!!

66
Kristin - May 01 2009 @ 4:41 pm

Saving for my honeymoon, but don't plan on stopping there. I love this product's whole concept, ESPECIALLY when it comes to gift giving. Instead of buying something a friend won't like, or just giving them $$, I can deposit something in their accounts and help make a dream/wish come true. Plus I love the branding, LOVE.

67
Stephanie PTY - May 01 2009 @ 4:46 pm

Lots of things! My brother's wedding is a destination wedding in a few years, so I'll need some money for that. Also, I know I'll need a new (new to me, anyway!) car at some point down the road, so I'm saving for that. And lots of little things in between.

Shayna - May 02 2009 @ 7:46 am

I've only been out of college for a year and am proud to say that between October and April, I saved $1,000 for a Summer trip (which is going to turn into a few trips bc I found great travel deals) and I've already received my supercute SmartyPig mastercard :)
Immediately upon accomplishing that goal (which feels great), I started another to save some money for the expenses of being a bridesmaid in my sister's wedding this October.
I've also been working on a 'New Car' (really a good used car) goal and am well on my way to reaching it. I couldn't have saved up this much without the motivation and gentle nudge that SmartyPig gives me! Thanks for helping me manage my money well, in the first year that I actually have some!! It's nice to know that I'm not going any further into debt, and the debt that I do have is just in college loans (which I'm working on as well). SmartyPig is wonderful and I recommend it to anyone who's trying to save money for something special, no matter what it is :D

After 36 years working for the same company, I lost my job because the new CEO wanted to bring in his own people (so much gratitude). With the bad economy and not being able to find a job, I need a friend and, right now, SmartyPig fits the ticket in helping me save and earn more interest than I can get anywhere else. Thanks Smartypig!

196
Jen - May 18 2009 @ 3:49 pm

A few months ago, I examined my life. I had a job, a husband, and was on my way to the traditional life in the suburbs. And I asked myself: Is there anything I would regret if I just let my life continue on as it's going? And the answer was YES. A year of traveling and service. I intended to do this before I got married, but never got around to it. When I brought up this regret to my husband, he said, "Let's do it!" So, we started our Smarty Pig Goal. We want to give a year of our lives to making this world a better place. We want to volunteer, teach, build houses and schools and churches, and most of all, to learn and to build bridges between our world and the rest of the world.

We aren't going as tourists, and we aren't saving to be consumers. We are going to serve and to give.

Thanks for giving us a great vehicle for saving, so we can reach our goal and share it with the world.

Jen and Erik
