SmartyPig Integrates with Personal Finance Software Sites!

SmartyPig Integrates Personal Finance Sites

We have received a significant number of requests from our customers indicating they want to be able to upload/integrate their SmartyPig account into their preferred financial money management site. Well, starting today you can! SmartyPig now integrates with sites like Mint, WesabeYodlee, Buxfer, Thrive, MoneyStrands and Microsoft Money. Geezeo and Rudder are coming soon.

There were two ways we could have integrated with these online money management sites. One would be to allow these sites to "screen scrape" - a technique in which a computer program extracts data from the display output of a Web page. The key element that distinguishes screen scraping is that the output being scraped was intended for display to an end-user, rather than as input to another program.

The other method would be for us to invest in an OFX (Open Financial Exchange) solution, a unified specification for the electronic exchange of financial data between financial institutions, businesses and consumers via the web. With more than 5,500 financial institutions using OFX, the specification is the most widely adopted open standard for the exchange of financial information between consumers and financial services providers.

We chose to invest in an OFX solution with one of the industry leaders in OFX technology, Access Softek out of Berkley, California.

At SmartyPig we recognize how important it is to securely manage your finances, set goals and help change the mindset of "buy now, pay later." And being able to aggregate all your accounts in one place is a critical step in taking control of your finances.

Did we miss integrating with your money management site? If so, please let us know!

Will this work with Quicken? Since Quicken and Microsoft Money are two very popular personal finance software packages, I was surprised to not see Quicken mentioned. Please let us know as I have been using Quicken for years and all the other banks I use allow me to download into Quicken with no problems. Thanks!

Le,

At present, our OFX solution is not supported with Quicken. This is something we may look at adding in the future.

I too use Quicken for my home finances, and do enjoy the convenience of downloading my bank transactions from my other financial institutions. Please consider adding Quicken to your list of available programs. Thank you!!

Maybe it's in my face and I'm just not noticing it, but is there a link on the SmartyPig site on the directions to making the integration work with my personal software (Microsoft Money)? Thanks!

I don't mean to come across as a jerk but why did Smarty Pig decide to do this so late in the game? I realize that Smarty Pig is a different type of bank but other banks have had this ability since their launch. This kinda seems like an afterthought. Don't get me wrong I'm glad that it is supported and I'm glad that it is offered with so many different programs, please support Quicken, but I know whenever I open an account online that is one of the deciding factors.

If I've offended anyone please send your negative comments to Free250zipper@yahoo.com Thanks!

I just tried to integrate my SmartyPig account with my Mint accounts ... West Bank isn't even on the Mint list. Am I missing something?
Thanks!

Michael Ferrari - March 18 2009 @ 12:31 pm

@Barbara,

Don't look for West Bank. Look for SmartyPig.

Thanks.

Are there plans for support for integration with Mvelopes?

14
Michael Ferrari - March 22 2009 @ 3:33 pm

@Kevin,

I just sent a request to Mvelopes to add SmartyPig to their list of supported financial institutions. I will let you know if and when I hear back from them.

Thanks for the suggestion!

@Kevin,

Just heard back from Mvelopes Support. Unfortunately they do not support OFX so we will be unable to integrate with them until they do.

Michael,
I just signed up with smarty pig and your customer service rep linked me to this thread. I just wanted to see if there was any more word on whether Quicken would be added to this list? I know they use with QFX.
Thank you

Jerry,

At this time we have no plans to integrate with Quicken's desktop software products but we do have a request out to Quicken to integrate with their free online product.

Thanks.

I use quicken online and have been wanting to integrate my smarty-pig account into that. If you guys could make that happen I would be an even happier customer!

Daniel - June 06 2009 @ 7:31 pm

Please add support for pageonce. Thank you.

I use quicken online too and would really like to get it to integrate with my smartypig account. Thanks.

Another Quicken user that would love to be able to download transactions!

24
Allen - November 24 2009 @ 4:33 pm

Now that mint has been bought out by Quicken will you guys be able to add support for quicken online? Have you guys been working with quicken to integrate support for their online PF site?

Scott - January 17 2010 @ 11:38 am

I just joined SmartyPig and love it, and am telling friends about it, but one (and really the only) thing that seems to be missing is the ability to download transactions into financial software, like Quicken. That is pretty important to anyone that keeps track of their finances. So, I'd like to add my voice to those above, suggesting that addition. Thanks.

Another vote for pageonce support.

Integrating with personal financial software is a great idea. I hooked up on this years ago. UNFORTUNATELY, Quicken users will not be able to enjoy this feature. In setting up a QFX in Quicken, you are REQUIRED to have an account number. SmartyPig will not let you have that! WEIRD!!

Jessica - April 19 2010 @ 9:32 am

Another vote for desktop software (Quicken/whatever) support... I use iBank on my Mac and it can handle downloading of OFX if SmartyPig made it available.

+1 for the Quicken support request.

Add my vote for a Quicken interface

32
Silent Cal - July 06 2010 @ 7:55 pm

I'd like to get onboard, but not without Quicken updates downloaded directly to my PC. I have a couple of small home improvement projects that would be great to save up for and then pay for with a Home Depot card and the SmartyPig discount. I'll check back periodically to see if you've added that functionality in the future.

Crunkyedwards - July 09 2010 @ 8:27 am

Add my vote for Quicken support.

I just opened my account and what a disappointment not to be able to link in to Quicken.

35
Donna - August 09 2010 @ 12:21 am

What about Pear Budget??

36
Chris - August 12 2010 @ 8:38 am

Quicken - Please provide support for this. I'm not inclined to use smartypig unless this is available.

37
Nate - August 15 2010 @ 6:27 pm

Quicken... Quicken... Quicken! It's a must have! Thanks guys and good luck.

38
Tim - August 17 2010 @ 4:09 pm

Add quicken functionality and I will be quick to sign up!

39
Robert - August 21 2010 @ 11:18 pm

I am looking to open an account with Smarty Pig. I love the concept and believe it to be worthwhile however the lack of intergration with Quicken really deters me. Please consider. Thank you.

To those deterred by lack of Quicken...I was in the same boat. But, I got over it, signed up and love it.

Mint.com has integration, granted, its not broken down by account. But thats ok. For the Quicken desktop, I created the accounts myself and manage it manually as needed. Its a little more time, but totally worth it.

You must also include Quickbooks when you set up Quicken, which is probably the most popular software. I've used it since 1988.
