My son can barely hold a dollar, let alone understand the value of one. But when he can, I hope to educate him on money management in a way that when the time comes, he starts off making smart decisions… and sticks with them.
Mike Dang wrote on Bundle.com recently: “Tell your kid, ‘You can buy whatever you want as long as you save up and buy it with your own money,’ and they’ll begin to grasp how hard it is to save, how easy it is to spend, and what a wonderful feeling it is to buy something after you’ve hit your savings goal.” After purchasing a toy she’d been saving for, Dang quoted one six-year-old child as saying, “Today is the best day of my entire life.” What enthusiasm! And just for doing the right thing! I cannot wait to share the simplicity of the process and the great reward that follows with my son. He will understand the value of a buck.
It’s a concept we built our business on, and we hear from parents daily about it: “My kids finally understand money!” We offer a “view-only” feature that allows children to watch their funds expand daily, while not having the ability to remove money or delete the account without a parent’s say-so. This co-ownership feature lets a child experience the satisfaction of watching pennies grow into dollars, gaining a deep understanding into something that is so simple yet possibly life saving from a financial point of view.
Wishing you successful saving!
